The Ocean melody in detail Notes and harmonics With Ocean, the Earth Symphony collection opens a soundscape inspired by the ocean, alongside Mountain, Forest and River. Each melody explores a different presence of Nature and can be listened to alone or in dialogue with the other chimes in the collection. Tuned to 440 Hz, the Koshi Ocean chime has twelve rods, four of which are identically doubled at the same frequencies, also known as “sympathetic resonators.” This sonic architecture gives it greater depth and a rich, immersive resonance. Comprising of the notes C# D# D# F# F# B B C# D# F# B C# the Ocean melody corresponds to pentatonic B major. Its twelve rods are tuned by hand, with reference to 440 Hz, until they find their right place within the harmonic ensemble. The four Earth Symphony melodies were designed to form a natural harmony. Mountain, Forest, River and Ocean can respond freely to one another: each chime retains its own character while finding its place within the ensemble.

Ocean stands out with a vast, deep and welcoming sound character. Its pentatonic melody is inspired by the ocean and may evoke boundless expanse and movement. Its twelve rods extend the resonance and give the Koshi Ocean chime a broad and continuous resonance.

How to play the Koshi Ocean chime Basic movements Hold the Koshi Ocean chime by its cord and let it hang freely. Turn it gently with a slight movement of the wrist: the central clapper sets the rods into vibration and brings forth a cascade of broad and deep notes. The broader the movement, the more the rods are set in motion. Or swing it gently in a pendulum motion to play individual notes. The Koshi chime can also simply be suspended, allowing the wind to play it through melodies that are always unexpected. During meditation The melody of the Koshi Ocean chime can, for example, introduce and conclude a meditation session. In sound therapy and sound yoga In sound practices, the Koshi Ocean chime naturally finds its place alongside singing bowls, gongs or other harmonic instruments. Its lightness allows practitioners to move it easily through the space, to let the sound circulate, mark a change of rhythm or guide listening toward silence.
